Is there a guide outlining front panel controls and/or how things plug into the back of the unit?
Click Controls & Components tab in the product description; the information is also outlined on pages 34-35 of the user manual (see Product Docs tab, and click User Manual icon).
How do I turn the device on?
Make sure all the necessary transducers required for testing are connected. Connect the power supply cable to the back of the device and plug into wall socket. To turn the device on, press the switch located in the back of the unit (label 33 on the back panel as illustrated in Controls & Components section).
How do I use the built-in printer?
The built-in printer is an obsolete feature and will not function. The MDS software allows data transfer from the audiometer to a PC for data management and report generation. The information transferred to the PC can be printed off from the PC. Another option involves purchasing a compatible external printer that directly connects to the audiometer.
I am getting a License Key activation prompt. What is this and how do I find the License Key for my unit?
When trying to add patient data, the unit accommodates up to five patients. When trying to add the sixth patient, the following Licensure Key activation window will appear:
This means the demo version of the MDS software has expired and it will be necessary to enter the License Key associated with your specific unit. The MDS License Key is listed in the PDF file called Resonance License located within the MDS folder on the USB thumb drive that came packaged with the unit. If you are unable to find the PDF file, contact Oaktree Products with the make/model and serial number of your unit. We will make arrangements for the vendor to issue the necessary MDS License Key.
How to I store values on the audiogram?
Press the STORE (17) button as illustrated in Controls & Components sections. NOTE: values cannot be stored if the R+L function is activated (i.e. if signal transmission is provided simultaneously to bothears).
How do I talk to the patient (talk forward)?
The operator can communicate with the patient either via a built-in microphone (3) or operator headset with microphone (included; connects to back panel). Once the operator headset with microphone is connected via the rear panel, the built-inmicrophone will be deactivated. To talk to the patient, press the T. Over button (15) and keep it pressed while speaking. The patient will be able to hear the operator via the transducers used for test performance (headphones, bone conductor, speakers). Volume levels of the operator talk forward microphone and the operator headset can be adjusted by selecting the CONTROLS (14) key and using arrow keys or Ch1 and Ch2 dials. See Controls & Components for visual orientation to buttons and controls of this unit.
How does talk back work (e.g. hearing what the patient is saying)?
The patient speaks to the operator over the patient microphone that is connected to the unit via the rearpanel (25). The operator can hear the patients via the built-in monitor speaker of the audiometer or via the operator headset, which is connected to the appropriate connector located on the unit’s rear panel (27). Once the operator headset is connected via the rear panel, the built-in speaker is excluded. The patient microphone can be adjustedby selecting the CONTROLS (14) key and using arrow keys or CH 1 and CH2 dials. See Controls & Components for visual orientation to buttons and controls of this unit.

Quick SIN Test
Quick SIN is a speech-in-noise test used to quickly evaluate patient capability to understand speech in noisy environment. The test is performed by submitting 6 sentences, each of them composed of 5 keywords, at a comfortable level, while the background noise is increased. A score is calculated based on recognized keywords, the total score assesses the patient understanding capability. Speech material is provided on SD-Card, for an easy test execution.
ABLB (Alternated Binaural Loudness Balance or Fowler Test)
Loudness recruitment test to help differentiate cochlear vs retrocochlear in the presence of a unilateral hearing loss. The test is carried out via air conduction whereby a pure tone of the same frequency is presented in one ear first, followed by the second ear. The intensity of the pure tone is varied with the goal to balance sensation of loudness for the better versus poorer ear.
Stenger Test
Pure tone of the same frequency is introduced into both ears simultaneously at different intensity levels for assessing functional hearing loss.
GAP Detection Threshold Test
Gap detection testing can be done several ways, but the premise is to introduce two stimuli (tones, clicks, broad band noise) of some duration with a variable gap between them. The subject is to identify whether they hear one sound or two sounds. The threshold at which the gap is sufficiently wide to be heard as two sounds is the ‘’gap detection threshold.’’
Difference Limen for Frequency Test
The minimum detectable change in the frequency of a pure tone is referred to as different limen. Presentation of two successive steady tones with slightly different frequencies are presented. The subject is asked to judge whether the first or the second had the higher frequency.

Things to Know Before you Buy
The built-in printer feature is obsolete and no longer functional
At the end of 2021, the printer was discontinued and Resonance was unable to find a comparable replacement that would fit in the unit. Rather than redesigning the r27a form factor, the built-in printer comportment remains on current units.
The unit does come packaged with free MDS software that allows data transfer from the audiometer to your PC for data management and report generation. The transferred data can be printed off from your PC. This represents the most common way providers print data from this unit. Another option for printing data from the unit is to purchase a compatible external printer that connects directly to the unit.
Three different versions of the r27a are available; make the most informed decision by reading this
Three versions include r27a-DD45, r27a-INSERT, and r27a-HDA. All three are identical with the exception packaged transducer. The r27a-DD45 comes with DD45 headphones, the r27a-INSERT is packaged with IP30 insert earphones, and the r27a-HDA comes packaged with D450 headphones because this particular unit offers extended high frequency testing capabilities (12 kHz).
This unit is essentially the same as the r37a-DD45 minus a few special tests/features
The r27a-DD45 offers the same capabilities as the r37a-DD45 minus a few special test capabilities including SISI, Bekesy, and automated Tone Decay. From our experience, most choose the r27a-DD45 as the additional tests offered by the r37a-DD45 are mainly obsolete and not work the additional investment of ~$1700. Unless a multi-frequency feature is needed (to be able to test hearing at frequencies adjacent to standard audiometric frequencies like 1012 Hz or 1085 Hz), the r27a-DD45 is an appropriate choice.
Technical support, calibration, and service is provided and managed through Oaktree Products
Responsive, efficient, and effective support is critical for busy providers to be able to use their equipment without delay. Equipment calibration is required annually. Equipment may need to be serviced over the years. Oaktree Products has made arrangements to coordinate and provide support, calibration and service to allow providers to focus on their clinical practice.

Resonance MDS Software & License Key:
The Resonance MDS Software is included free of charge with this Resonance unit. The software allows creation and management of a patient database on your PC and the ability to transfer patient information and test results from your Resonance unit to your PC. As a software program, a license key will be required to permanently activate the MDS software. The license key can be found within the Resonance License PDF file that resides in the MDS Suite folder on the USB thumb drive packaged with your unit. Print or refer to this file when your unit generates a prompt for MDS License Key Activation.
MDS License Key Activation:
The MDS software file resides in the MDS folder on the USB thumb drive packaged with your unit. The software is located on the USB thumb drive packaged with the unit. Go to the MDS Suite folder, click MDS Setup and follow installation instructions. Be sure to click "Create Shortcut to Desktop" when prompted to have the software icon appear on your desktop for easiest access. NOTE: MDS software will accommodate data from five patients without requiring a software license activation key. When trying to add data from the sixth patient, the following Licensure Key activation window will appear:
This means the demo version of the MDS software has expired and it will be necessary to enter the License Key associated with your specific unit. The MDS License Key is listed in the PDF file called Resonance License located within the MDS folder on the USB thumb drive that came packaged with the unit. If you are unable to find the PDF file, contact Oaktree Products with the make/model and serial number of your unit. We will make arrangements for the vendor to issue the necessary MDS License Key.
