To Perform Tympanometry:
The system defaults to the right ear in the adult test mode with a constant pressure speed throughout the test using a 226 Hz probe tone. To perform tympanometry:
- press TYMPANOMTERY icon
- press START
- during testing, the START button turns to a yellow STOP button
- when testing is complete, the yellow STOP button turns back to a green START button
How do I change testing parameters for tympanometry?
The tympanometry display screen is shows below. The left portion of the screen shows an RED highlighted box. Above the box is a RED horizontal header with the letter "R" in the far left hand side, indicating "Right Ear". The system defaults to the right ear. To change ears, touch the general area of the red highlighted box. The display will now show a tympanogram graph with a BLUE highlighted box and a BLUE horizontal header. The right portion of the blue header will show "L" for "Left Ear".
The display screen also features several touch buttons for changing various parameters as follows:
1: Mode button (adult or children): icon above indicates "Children function". When performing tympanometry, this option distracts child by showing animations on the display during testing.
2: Single vs Three Sequence button: Single option (designated with 1) performs one tympanogram; three sequence option (designated by 3) performs three tympanograms in sequence with ability for provider to select the one to be saved in database.
3:Pressure Range button: default setting =200/-400 daPa; other option is +100/-200 daPa.
4: Probe Tone button: default 226 Hz; other option is 1000 Hz.
5: Pressure Variation Rate button: AUTO introduces pressure at max speed and then reduces when approaching peak compliance (to improve definition). FAST option generates pressure variation rate constantly at the max speech throughout the entire test.
6: Start button: pressing this button starts the tympanometry procedure
To Perform Acoustic Reflex Testing:
To perform tympanometry:
- press REFLEX icon
- press START
- during testing, the START button turns to a yellow STOP button; the system automatically performs acoustic reflex testing for selected frequencies using established parameters
- when testing is complete, the yellow STOP button turns back to a green START button
The SETUP icon may be used to select/deselect test frequencies, set start and stop intensity levels (50-100 dB HL range), and increment levels (5 or 10 dB HL).
To Perform Rapid Screening:
This feature performs tympanometry and a reflex testing sequentially, eliminating the need to perform tympanometry and reflexes separately. The user can define which frequencies to include in reflex testing, and the unit offers the ability to save up to 3 test parameters
- press QUICK icon
- during testing, the START button turns to a yellow STOP button; the system performs tympanometry and immediately transitions to acoustic reflex testing for selected frequencies using established parameters
- when testing is complete, the yellow STOP button turns back to a green START button
To Perform Reflex Decay:
- press DECAY icon
- press START
Press IPSI icon to select IPSI or CONTRA test Mode
Press 20 S icon to select duration (10 vs 20 seconds)
Use arrows to adjust stimulus frequency
To Perform ETF tests:
Intact Tympanic Membrane
ETF stands for Eustachian Tube Function tests. The following procedure is followed to perform ETF test in the presence of an intact tympanic membrane:
- press ETF icon
- press screen to switch from right to left ear
- press START
- during testing, the START
- the unit will perform the 1st of 3 tympanograms; at the completion of the first tympanogram, a message will prompt the operator to instruct the patient prior to performing the 2nd tympanogram
- Press the check icon
- repeat the process until 3 tympanograms have been recorded
Patulous Eustachian Tube
The DECAY icon is used to test patients with a patulous Eustachian Tube. The patient is instructed to breathe deeply through the nose, without opening the mouth. To perform this test:
- press DECAY icon
- press the down arrow until the stimulus level reads OFF
- press START
What is the PIN code for my device and why do I need one?
The standard PIN code is 1 2 3 4. When turning the device on for the first time, enter the standard PIN code to unlock the device. Once unlocked, the PIN can be changed. Resonance updated the user interface to comply with European regulations and to protect patient data.
How do I change the PIN code for my device?
- press SETUP
- press CHANGE PIN icon
- follow the instructions
What is the PUK code for my device and why do I need one?
The PUK code is a second code for unlocking the device in case the wrong PIN code is entered after three attempts. Entering the wrong PIN code three times will lock the device. The PUK code will be needed to unlock the unit.
Where do I find the PIN and PUK codes for my device?
The PIN and PUK codes for your device appear at the bottom portion of the Pin and Puk document packaged with the unit (it should reside in a plastic bag containing the USB pen drive and stylus pen). The standard PIN code is 1 2 3 4 which can be changed to a custom code. The PUK code is unique to the device. The PIN and PUK document should be filed for future reference in the event the wrong PIN is entered three time, locking the device, and to quickly access the serial number of the device.

Things to Know Before you Buy
Three different versions of the r16m are available; make the most informed decision by reading this
Three versions include r16m-LITE, r16m, and r16m-D. All three versions offer 226 Hz and 1000 Hz probe tone. All three versions offer ipsilateral acoustic reflex capabilities at 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 kHz. The main differences involve contralateral acoustic reflex capabilities, acoustic reflex decay capabilities, Eustachian Tube Function (ETF) test features as follows:
In addition, the r16m and r16m-D versions can be upgraded with OAE software modules whereas the r16m-LITE can not be upgraded.
The r16m-D may be upgraded with available OAE software modules
If you are anticipating the future need, considering, or in need of a tympanometer with DPOE capabilities, r16m-D is a viable choice.
